Stars best first place Mustangs 4-1 in Melfort

The Battlefords North Stars snapped their two game skid, topping the league-leading Mustangs 4-1 Wednesday night in Melfort.

Goaltender, Ulrik Roussel led the way with 33 saves on 34 shots, while Steven Kesslering scored a goal and an assist, Easton Rask notched the first of his career, and Colby Bear and Jake Southgate also scored for the team.

For Bear, the goal served as his third over his last three games, while Southgate’s sixth moves him into sole possession of the team lead in goals, while his 13 points are tied with Kesslering for the team best.

At the other end, Melfort’s Seth McCulloch’s fifth of the year was his team’s only goal in the loss, while Joel Favreau stopped 35 of 38 shots against in the Mustangs’ defeat.

With the victory, the Stars improve to 6-3-1 to start the year, while Melfort now sit 7-2-1.

The North Stars will return to action Saturday at home versus La Ronge. The NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast will be available on 1050 CJNB. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7 p.m., with puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m.
