Youths charged with murder following suspicious death in Grandmother’s Bay

Two youths have been charged with second-degree murder following a suspicious death in Grandmother’s Bay.

According to an RCMP media release, on Oct. 8 at approximately 6:45 p.m., Stanley Mission police attended to a residence in Grandmother’s Bay after a report a man was unaccounted for.

Officers entered the residence and located a deceased male. He has been identified as 55-year-old George Roberts of Grandmother’s Bay. His family has been notified.

The release notes an investigation determined that Roberts’ death was suspicious in nature. Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crime Unit South led the subsequent investigation with the assistance of the Stanley Mission RCMP, La Ronge RCMP, Prince Albert and Tisdale Forensic Identification Services, Saskatoon and Prince Albert Provincial General Investigation Sections, Major Crime Unit North and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

As a result of this investigation, two 16-year-old youths were arrested Oct. 12. The individuals can’t be named or identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The youth were each charged with second degree murder, robbery, and break and enter and commit indictable offence. Both youth made their first court appearance in La Ronge on Oct. 14.
