Adult and youth charged in connection with a shooting in Nipawin

Two people are now in custody after a shooting in Nipawin. Around 2:45 a.m. on Oct. 15, the Nipawin RCMP received a report of shots fired near Fifth Street West. A female victim was found with gunshot wounds.

She was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. During an investigation, it was discovered that an adult man and woman had been forced from a residence on Eighth Avenue West that same day. The woman was shot, but the man was not injured. A female youth and a male were arrested following an investigation. Oscar Young, 26, has been charged with:

  • 1 count of aggravated assault
  • 1 count of possession of a firearm while prohibited
  • 1 count of discharge firearm with intent
  • 1 count of careless use of a firearm
  • 1 count of Possession of a firearm without a licence
  • 1 count of pointing a firearm

Young was remanded in custody and will appear in court Oct. 18 in Nipawin. A 16-year-old female, who cannot be identified, is being charged with:

  • 1 count of possession of a prohibited weapon
