Northeast Regional Victim Services holds fundraiser in Tisdale

The Northeast Regional Victim Services (NRVS) held a Chicken Pot Pie fundraiser in Tisdale this past Wednesday, Oct. 13, in support of volunteer training for their non-profit organization, which raised over $2,000.

The fundraiser was sponsored by both Cornerstone Credit Union and Beeland Co-op, both in Tisdale. The NRVS delivered chicken pot pies, cookies and bottled water to businesses and individuals who ordered in support of the fundraiser.

Jenna Holt, coordinator for the NRVS and this fundraiser, said she was extremely happy with how well the event went and how great the response was from the community.

“I was very happy with our fundraiser, we had really good community support from Tisdale and we made over two thousand dollars,” said Holt. “A lot of the businesses called after and said they really enjoyed the pot pies.”

Holt also said that although this fundraiser was put on to support their organization, bringing awareness was just as important in her eyes.

“We want to keep having this conversation and that people are empowered to ask questions about what we do because that awareness side is very important.”

During the pandemic, the NRVS has had to slightly adapt their fundraisers. Fortunately, it hasn’t impacted the number they’ve held, just how they go about doing them.

“With our organization, we’ve been very creative over the years with our fundraisers,” said Holt. “This is actually the first pot pie one that we’ve done. We’ve done golf tournaments and barbeques in the past and actually just did an RCMP challenge course.”

“Especially during COVID, however, we wanted to do something where people feel safe. We’ve just been thinking outside the box a bit more. It was very well received in the community.”

The NRVS covers many communities in the area, such as Carrot River, Melfort, Cumberland House, Hudson Bay, Kelvington, Naicam, Nipawin, Porcupine Plain, Tisdale, Rose Valley and the rest of the surrounding areas of those communities.

Holt told northeastNOW that the goal of the NRVS was simple and is best explained in their mission statement.

“NRVS, with the assistance of a strong volunteer base provides confidential support to victims of crime and traumatic events in the Northeast region, with the goal of empowering our clients and supporting our clients to a new normal and returning them to wellness.”

NRVS works alongside the RCMP and is on call 24/7. They’re constantly receiving calls and referrals in response to crisis events as they work to get people back to safety, health and wellness.
