Treats, no trick

Humboldt Chamber gathering Halloween treats for drive thru trick or treat event

Oct 19, 2021 | 12:13 PM

Trick or treaters will once again be able to get an entire bag of candy this Halloween in just one stop in Humboldt.

The Humboldt Chamber of Commerce will host their second Halloween drive thru.

Executive director Brent Fitzpatrick told northeastNOW treat bag pick-up begins at 1 p.m. on Oct. 31.

“Come to the chamber office which is at the historic campground, watch for the signs and we will get you to come in through the east and drive thru,” Fitzpatrick said. “We will be safely handing out treats.”

Last year’s event was put together in about three days in response to the COVID-19 public health guidelines that were in place.

“All of our business community that we could get through our membership, we gathered 6,500 plus treats that we assembled into about 275 bags of treats,” Fitzpatrick said. “Those bags lasted about an hour and a half before we were out on Halloween (in 2020).”

People that couldn’t donate treats, donated cash and the chamber then went out and bought treats on behalf of chamber members.

A silver collection also went towards Humboldt Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) which Fitzpatrick called a ‘win-win.’

“It raised a few hundred dollars and it really does help the work that they do in the community,” Fitzpatrick said.

The silver collection will be happening again this year for BBBS in Humboldt.

The hope for this year is to make it bigger and better through the assistance of the community. Those wishing to donate cash or treats can call the chamber at 306-682-4990.

“We will make the arrangements to make sure that everything is handed out to our little trick-or treaters this year,” Fitzpatrick said.

Only individually wrapped treats will be accepted.
