Battlefords crews deal with flipped semi

Motorists leaving the Battlefords via the Highway 16 West overpass today had an unusual sight from an accident the previous evening.

Emergency and towing crews were on the scene of a semi sidelined while attempting to travel east on Tuesday. As a result, traffic was limited for a few hours as the semi was removed from the road, Battlefords RCMP Sgt. Neil Tremblay said

“The vehicle clipped the guard rail, knocked over a light pole and flipped over on its side,” Tremblay said.

The incident was called in to the detachment around 8:00 p.m. and towing crews had left the scene a little over 90 minutes later. At this time, it’s believed that there were no other vehicles involved in the incident. The driver and passenger that were in the semi were unharmed.

The trailer portion of the semi remains at the side of the road, until such time as it can be transported. Tremblay said there is also some investigative work remaining.

“No indication that impairment or anything like that was a factor,” he said. “There will be some investigating into driving actions that contributed, but there’s nothing definitively to mention at this point.”

Motorists are asked to be aware when utilizing this exit. An update will be provided when available.
