Harroch earns rare shutout in loss, as Terriers top Stars in shootout

Oct 23, 2021 | 11:48 PM

It was a night goaltender, Michael Harroch will not likely soon forget.

Making his North Stars debut Saturday against Yorkton, after being acquired by the team earlier in the week, Harroch stopped all 37 shots he faced for a shutout… in a 1-0 North Stars shootout loss.

One of the greatest anomalies in sport, the night’s contest remained scoreless through not one, or two, but three periods of play and a five-minute overtime period.

With both the North Stars and Terriers limiting the opposition’s chances throughout the night through stifling defensive play, the stonewall continued through the overtime frame and the first three shots of the shootout.

After forwards Colby Bear (BAT), Karsten Kruska (YOR) and Jake Southgate (BAT) were turned aside in the shootout, Terriers’ captain, Kishaun Gervais (YOR) scored the winner on a quick deke move coming in with speed.

Holden Doell (BAT) was then also turned aside by Yorkton goalie, Kael DePape, who shut the five-hole just in time to thwart the chance and secure the win for his team.

DePape’s shutout came off stopping all 28 North Stars shots.

Because the loss came in extra time, the Stars still pick up a single point, with a record of 8-3-2 now, through their first 13 games this season. Yorkton improve to 5-8 through their first 13.

The North Stars will return to play Tuesday in North Battleford. The NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast will be available on 1050 CJNB, with the Ultra Print Pregame Show at 7 p.m., and puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m.
