Proof of vaccination or negative test result mandatory at Horizon School Division for all adults

Oct 26, 2021 | 5:29 PM

Any adult that should work in or enter a Horizon School Division (HSD) building is now required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative test result.

In a release, HSD said their highest priority at Horizon School Division is the health and safety of their students, staff, families, and communities.

The new procedure was developed to support Horizon’s 2021-22 COVID-19 Strategy and in response to the provincial vaccine mandate or negative test requirement that was implemented on Oct. 1.

Proof of vaccination or proof of negative test results are required for all Horizon trustees, staff, volunteers, and contractors as defined in the administrative procedure. The administrative procedure also outlines the process in which the vaccination verification or negative test results will be administered.

The health and safety of students, staff, families, and community members are of the utmost importance to Horizon School Division. Horizon is committed to taking the necessary precautions to provide and maintain a safe learning and working environment for all.

“Horizon School Division is here to support children, to inspire learning, to engage students, and to do all of this in a safe and caring environment. It is these values that are at the heart of this AP and all of our policies and procedures,” said Kevin C. Garinger, Director of Education.

Horizon School Division supports the provincial COVID-19 vaccination program and the Government of Saskatchewan and Chief Medical Health Officer’s views that vaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect students, staff, families, and communities against COVID-19.

The mandate is effective today and can be seen on the HSD website. Proof of vaccination status shall be submitted by 9 a.m. on Oct. 29, 2021. If a trustee, staff, volunteer, or contractor chooses not to disclose their vaccination status, they will be considered unvaccinated after that time.

When speaking to northeastnow, Garinger said whenever the opportunity arises to continue to ensure the safety of everyone in the division, they will not hesitate.

“We know that the impact on our children is significant, that’s exactly why any of the health protocols that we can put into place that are going to protect our children, ourselves, of course, each other, we will do. We all have a responsibility for public health and that’s part of our responsibility then is to make sure that we have protocols that are going to make sure the health and safety of our children and our staff and families and communities are maintained in the best possible way.”
