Thanks to a $2,000 donation from the Melfort RCMP, Parkland Place is getting a new hydrocollator.

Detachment Services assistant Lori Scott said to raise funds, the RCMP held their annual charity golf tournament.

“We had half as many golfers as we normally do. Kept the numbers low due to COVID,” Scott told northeastNOW. “We didn’t end up having a supper so we raised money just from the registrations and some of the ticket sales for the prizes.”

The funds raised go directly to the Parkland Place residents fund and goes toward helping those who use Parkland Place’s services.

Scott said the RCMP is glad to help out a local organization.

“We were talking to a few of the community members and we heard Parkland Place was hoping to make some purchases.”

Jacquie Sundelin, a recreational therapist at Parkland Place, said the money will be used to purchase a special piece of equipment.

“The hydrocollator is a hot pad machine that is used in our therapy department.”

Parkland Place offers its residents physical therapy. This can include individual treatments, range of motion or walking activities.

Additionally, recreation therapy is available to help residents with their cultural, spiritual, intellectual, social, and physical needs.

The goal of the therapy is to help residents maintain as much independence as possible in their daily lives.

All residents can utilize this piece of equipment. Sundelin said this is a very necessary piece of equipment for the therapeutic process.

“We haven’t had a machine for about three years so it is wonderful that we get to have this piece of equipment back again.”
