Over the Moon coming to Tisdale after two-year event hiatus

The Tisdale Arts Council is back to hosting events once again.

This Friday, Nov. 12, from 7:30–9:30 P.M., will mark the first time in nearly two years the Tisdale Arts Council is able to host an event.

Over the Moon, a couple who were supposed to come to Tisdale last year, but obviously didn’t, due to the pandemic, are finally here.

Sharon Hinkins, president of the Tisdale Arts Council described the show as a couple who live in Alberta that sing ‘cowboy country’, who are rural, down to earth, very easy to talk to, very cooperative during COVID, allowing Tisdale the time to set up and a good fit for Northeast Saskatchewan.

The Tisdale Arts Council originally saw the group performing in Saskatoon thanks to the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC).

Masking and double vaccination will be mandatory to attend the event at the Maurice Taylor Performing Arts Theatre, as well as physical distancing between different groups of people.

Hinkins described the event as a test on how well their season will go and whether or not it will be successful.

“This is kind of a trial run for us, what the response is going to be. Hopefully, it’s going to be good enough that we can continue on and have some shows and not have to wait for another year until hopefully, this COVID thing is over. It’s taken a lot of extra planning, for sure.”

Hinkins said that she and her team are extremely happy, however, and they hope that everyone else is too.

“We are quite excited to be able to get back to having some of the shows back in town. We didn’t know if we’d have any shows at all this year, don’t mind a season.”

“People (in Tisdale) are so happy that it’s back and is going to be here. Whether or not we get people travelling in from out of town though, we don’t know, but the response seems to be good so far. It’s going to be a smaller group and we’re going to have to wait till Friday night to see how many of those 145 tickets that we had are actually sold.”

Normally, the Arts Council would be able to host 220 people, however, due to COVID protocols, the event had to be reduced to 145.

Hinkins also mentioned that this ‘trial run’ is the most important event of the year, as it can also make or break the rest of the season.

“I think this is the most important one, I think this is going to let us know whether or not we’re going to be able to bring some more shows in successfully and have enough people that are willing to come out during these times. A lot is riding on this show to lead the way, as to what’s going to happen next.”
