Positions at the Horizon School Division table remain unchanged after the Board of Education Trustees voted at their annual organizational meeting on Nov. 10.

Jim Hack will retain the position of board chair with Linda Mattock in the vice-chair position.

In a press release sent to northeastNOW by Horizon School Division, Hack and Mattock expressed their excitement for another year in their positions.

“I am grateful for the support of my fellow trustees and I am looking forward to serving as board chair for another year,” said Hack. “Thank you also to Linda Mattock for her work as vice-chair these past years. I am proud of the work we’ve done, and will continue to do as stewards of our education system.”

Hack has served as Board Chair for Horizon School Division since 2011. He also serves as trustee for Subdivision 10, which includes Ituna School, Foam Lake Composite High School and Foam Lake Elementary School.

Ms. Mattock has served as board vice-chair since 2019. She has been the trustee for Subdivision 2 since 2016. Subdivision 2 includes Humboldt Collegiate Institute, Humboldt Public School, Lake Lenore School, St. Brieux School, Annaheim School, and Three Lakes School in Middle Lake.

“I look forward to continuing our work in setting a progressive direction for Horizon School Division, empowering staff and creating connections with educational stakeholders,” said Mattock. “Thank you to my fellow trustees for your nominations and votes.”

Horizon’s Board of Education is made up of 14 publicly-elected trustees representing as many Subdivisions. The organizational meeting of the board is held each calendar year in accordance with the Education Act. At this meeting, trustees determine the board’s table officers and discuss indemnity rates, incidental rates and other organizational items.

In an interview done with northeastNOW, Hack said he is extremely grateful to have served as board chair for as long as he has, however, he credits all of his success to the rest of his peers.

“I’m very humbled and honoured to be the board chair for this long, we do a good job as a board and I just try and be a facilitator, so that the board can make the correct decisions and the thoughtful decisions and discussions that we have. I’m very happy to be representing the Horizon School Division as board chair.”

Hack also said these past couple of years have been the most difficult of the bunch and he and his board are tired. However, they know they still have work to do and they won’t quit until it’s done.

“COVID has always been on our agenda at every meeting for the past 18 months. We know that it’s not over and we will do whatever we need to do to make sure that our students and our staff are safe and continue to be safe. It has been trying, without a doubt, but I know that our board has done everything they could to keep everyone safe.”
