2021 Twinkle Tour coming to North Battleford

Nov 15, 2021 | 8:15 AM

North Battleford residents who love to show off their Christmas spirit can do so next month with a community tradition.

The City announced the 2021 Twinkle Tour is indeed coming this December, where businesses and residents within North Battleford city limits can light up the season with decorations on their roofs, lawns walls, and windows. Mayor David Gillan said it’s exciting to have the tour again ahead of Christmas.

“It’s a really feel-good event, for community positivity,” he said. “Even if it’s not exactly like it used to be.”

Similar to 2020, there will not be a scheduled tour, with all registered properties displayed on a map instead. This is due to COVID-19 restrictions. A route that includes the best-decorated street and house will also be available once the winners are announced on December 17.

Gillan said if there wasn’t a fourth wave of COVID-19 in the province, things would likely be different, but they had to adjust to the restrictions in place.

“Right now it’s the best information we have to go on,” he said. “And we’re able to do this [tour] virtually.”

‘It’s not easy to have these restrictions in place… and there are a lot of people feeling pressure. I’m hoping people will find a little positivity in their day with [the Twinkle Tour].”

Prizes for the best house include a package from Magic Lantern Theatres, a plaque, and a second plaque at City Hall. The block judged as best-decorated street will have a street blade sign hung there, along with a plaque at City Hall.

There will also be a video with all registered properties after December 17, for those unable to drive the tour. This will be available on the City’s website and on YouTube.

The deadline to register is December 14. More information is available here and at the City of North Battleford’s website.
