Broncos off the ice tonight, praise for Barlage

The weather is taking its toll on the Saskatchewan prairies and that can cause havok on hockey schedules as well.

With unfavourable road conditions being reported across Saskatchewan, the Notre Dames Hounds are unable to make the trip to Humboldt for tonight’s game that was scheduled at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

Head coach Scott Barney told northeastNOW while it is disappointing to cancel games, the safety of players and teams is always top priority.

Barney reports the Broncos had a good, high tempo practice this morning and will now focus their energy on preparing for Saturday’s home game against the Nipawin Hawks.

Even with the disappointment of not hitting the ice tonight, the Broncos are still celebrating one of their own as defenceman Noah Barlage is taking home the Mayfair Diagnostics SJHL Defenceman of the Week.

The homegrown Bronco gains four points across two games against La Ronge this past weekend with a goal and three assists. This was his second goal of the season.

This is Barlage’s third season with the Broncos. He kicked off his rookie 2019-2020 season with a goal and eight assists in 49 games and gained two assists in six games during the shortened 2020-2021 season.

Barney said him and the rest of the coaching staff thought this was Barlage’s best week.

“Noah is the top defender in our league and when he concentrates on that his offensive game will follow suit, like it did this past week.”
