Santa goes virtual this Christmas

With the growing COVID-19 pandemic, Santa and his helpers have thought of a new approach to bringing kids Christmas cheer.

Santa Steve started taking bookings for virtual Christmas calls in late October and hopes to fill the holiday season with holiday magic.

Santa Steve took a break from brushing the reindeer to let us know that the pandemic isn’t going to stop him from seeing smiling faces.

“When the pandemic started people still wanted to see Santa so we came up with this idea to do it virtually,” Santa Steve told northeastNOW. “Last year over November and December we did over 85 calls across Western Canada, we also had the Philippines and England.”

For those hoping to book a virtual visit, prices start at $10 for 10 minutes with Santa. In that time kids are invited to ask questions about Christmas or any burning questions callers may have for the North Pole resident.

“Every call was different and every call was great. Kids are amazing. Some calls were conversations, telling a short Christmas story or reading the letters the parents had sent in.”

For Santa Steve to be able to finish building LoL dolls, Paw Patrol toys, lego sets and all sorts of toys for all the good boys and girls, he will be making his last call on Dec 23.

During this time Santa Steve also wants to encourage people to think of the little boys and girls who are less fortunate. There is an option to gift a secret Santa call to those who might not otherwise get the chance to speak with Father Christmas.

“Everybody appreciated each of those calls.”

Those who book a call will receive a Zoom invite a few days before their selected time. If parents don’t have Zoom they can also opt for Facebook messenger, Facetime or any other virtual meeting service that the family may have.
