The Nipawin Hawks have traded 19-year-old defenceman Josh Morton to the Kindersley Klippers.

The Spruce Grove, Alta. product played 23 games for the team including 20 this Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season where Morton scored one goal and added three assists. He also led the Hawks in penalty minutes with 78.

Nipawin also sent a fourth-round bantam draft pick to the Klippers. In return the Hawks receive 20-year-old defenceman Jack Michell, a third-round draft pick, a player development fee, and future considerations.

Michell, a Saskatoon product, started his SJHL career in Estevan with the Bruins before being traded to Flin Flon and later the Klippers. Michell has played in 98 regular season games over four years scoring six goals, adding 15 assists. He’s also played in 18 career SJHL playoff games over the last few seasons.

The team hopes Michell will be in the lineup Tuesday when the Hawks travel to Flin Flon to face the Bombers.

The game will be broadcasted on Saskatchewan’s New Beach Radio beginning with the pregame show at 7:15 p.m. General Manager Doug Johnson will speak about the trade during the broadcast.
