Battlefords Chamber begins election procedures

It’s election season for the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce.

The nominations committee has been convened to head up the elections process this year at the chamber and seats on the board of directors are open. Nominations for chamber members are open until the end of Dec. 1 after which the rest of the election commences.

Chief Operating Officer Linda Machniak said every year they lose good people from their roles on the board, adding that all volunteer efforts from members are appreciated. All new directors are brought onto the board in the New Year.

“We always have new or returning members who come in and contribute, but there are a lot of incumbents,” she said.

Occasionally there are one-year terms to fill and nominations for the past chair position, such as this year. One director had resigned after moving away from the Battlefords, which will be a one-year term for the replacement. A total of eight seats are open for a two-year term and five other seats are one-year terms.

Machniak said it’s important to participate as a member of the chamber of commerce and that having a seat on the board is a positive way to do that. It’s also one of the ways new members become better informed about the organization they are a part of.

“This is a way for folks to become engaged, learn what the chamber does and how it can impact business in the community,” Machniak said.

Another benefit to having a seat at the table is building relationships. Machniak said directors of the board will all say they’ve increased their business and network connections

“So, if that assists them in their business, or building and growing their business, then that’s a really good thing.”

Nomination forms can be found online.
