“Pack the Patrol Unit” to benefit local Humane Society

Dec 6, 2021 | 5:45 PM

The North Battleford Community Safety Officers (CSOs) wanted to do something to help a local cause leading up to the holidays, so decided to hold the “Pack the Patrol Unit” fundraiser.

People are invited to donate various items for pets with all donations to benefit the Battlefords Humane Society.

For the felines, cat and kitten food (wet and dry), cat toys, treats, scratching posts and non-clumping cat litter are all accepted. For the pooches, dog and puppy food (wet and dry, Purina and Puppy Chow), dog toys, treats, blankets and dog beds are welcome.

The event will run Dec. 17 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. outside the Walmart store and the No Frills grocery store location. People can pop by one of the cruisers stopped outside any of these sites, and drop off some items to donate.

“Our goal is to fill two patrol units,” the CSO group said.

North Battleford Community Safety Officer (CSO) Unit commander/supervisor Alain Manibal said people may not always think of helping the humane society at this time of the year, so the CSOs believe it is a good cause to support.

“During the holidays, a lot is being done for many other causes but not really anything for the humane society,” he said.

Battlefords Humane Society shelter coordinator Michelle Spark said the support is appreciated.

“It will be nice to fill the [shelves] up, and be able to give all the animals new toys for Christmas,” she said. “We’re pretty happy about it.”
