Humane Society giving out pet hampers this Christmas

Dec 13, 2021 | 1:12 PM

The Battlefords Humane Society will be giving away pet hampers to families in need again this holiday season.

This will be the second year of the project. Last year the society gave out about 40 hampers over the holidays.

Shelter co-ordinator Michelle Spark said this year the hampers will likely include some toys and treats for people’s cats or dogs.

“It all depends on what gets donated,” she said. “We will fill up the hampers as much as we can with what we have.”

People are invited to apply for a pet hamper by Dec. 19, by calling or emailing the Battlefords Humane Society. Hampers will be given out starting Dec. 23.

“We’ve been trying to give back to the community and those in need,” Spark said. “Since COVID hit, I know Christmas time has been a hard time for a lot of people. We’ve been putting together Christmas hampers for homes that have pets. It will have some food in it, some treats and some toys.”

She said the pet hamper project will help people who are facing financial challenges over the holidays.

Spark said the Humane Society is also accepting donations for the hamper project.

Some suggestions for donations include pet toys, blankets, pet food, and anything else to benefit pets.

People can drop off their donations to the Battlefords Humane Society located in North Battleford.
