Brent Lutz announces his resignation from the City of Melfort

The City of Melfort will be looking for a new director of development, planning and community relations in the new year after Brent Lutz resigned from the position.

The resignation of former director Brent Lutz was announced by Mayor Glenn George at the end of a council meeting held on Dec. 13.

Following his 11 years with the City, Lutz stated he is ready to move on to a new challenge.

“I have gained considerable experience with the city. I’ve been looking for an opportunity to put that to work at a different level of management,” he said.

Lutz has accepted a position with Candle Lake as their new chief administrative officer (CAO).

“Part of the rationale is Candle Lake is an exciting community, it is the fastest growing resort community in Saskatchewan and it’s one of the most popular all-season resorts in Western Canada,” he added.

Dec. 30 will be Lutz’s last day with the City and his first day with Candle Lake will be early in the new year.

There is currently no word on who will assume the director role but the city is in the process of finding a suitable candidate.

“As far as what id like to see, I am hopeful they will find someone who will be experienced to work with operations with the department and community development who can help support that.”

Although there were many important moments in his career, Lutz shared some highlights.

• Seeing the growth in the housing sector by increasing rental properties and supporting new home construction.
• Seeing the retail industry expand.
• The announcement of the G3 elevator project which is expected to bring more employment to the community.
• Seeing the health service sector flourish. This includes the completion of the wellness centre, the helipad and the CT scanner.

The most emotional moment occurred in 2021 during the Canada Day celebrations.

“So pleased to be able to see the whole region come and celebrate together, join arms, acknowledge past failures and look forward to a bright future,” he said.
