Family Resource Center hosting free children’s Christmas workshop

The season of giving continues to establish a presence throughout Meadow Lake, and the Meadow Lake Early Years Family Resource Centre (FRC) is the latest organization to get in on the fun.

The FRC is hosting a Christmas workshop later this week for children up to five years old. The program provides young ones with an opportunity to create personalized Christmas gifts for their loved ones free of charge. Children will have the choice between three different projects that will be open to creative interpretation throughout the craft’s assembling.

Brooke Ebach, Early Years facilitator, said the activity comes at a time where the centre is promoting the spirit of the holiday season to their young clients and instilling traditional values associated with the occasion.

“It’s hard for kids to go out and buy gifts, and parents deserve to feel special too,” she said.

“We wanted something where kids could come here and specifically think about giving throughout the holidays.”

The event follows another craft session recently held for children at the centre who made small gifts for seniors in the community. The items were delivered to the Northland Pioneers Lodge on Wednesday.

Ebach added the recent programming has been effective in helping families return to the centre throughout the season.

“The holidays have been so isolated for the past two years, so this year, we feel it’s a bit safer for people to come out and do what the holidays are about, getting out in the community, helping out people and having nice family time together,” she said.

“Spreading that little bit of joy, that’s really what we’ve been trying to do. It’s been pretty magical having kids in our centre.”

There aren’t any restrictions for the craft session, and children slightly older than the specified age range are still welcomed to participate in the activities. Reservations for the workshop aren’t necessary as the event allows drop-ins.

The Christmas workshop is scheduled to take place at the FRC on Friday, Dec. 17 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
