On Dec. 10, south of Fishing Lake First Nation, Wadena RCMP arrested a man for making threats and fleeing from police.

Investigations determined 31-year old Joseph Desjarlais had an altercation with someone at a security checkpoint at an entrance to the community. Desjarlais then threatened the individual with a weapon before leaving the area.

Wadena RCMP located Desjarlais’ SUV at a residence in the community, however, he was able to escape. Police later found his SUV rolled over on Highway 16 after it had collided with another vehicle.

Luckily, neither the threatened individual nor the occupants of either vehicle were injured. Desjarlais was arrested on the scene.

He will appear in Wynyard Provincial Court on Dec. 23 and will face a total of seven different charges.

The charges include uttering threats, assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of weapon contrary to order.
