Carrot River hires new town administrator

The Town of Carrot River has officially hired a new town administrator, after their former administrator, Brennan Hall, had resigned from the position, effective Dec. 30.

In a press release sent to northeastnow the town had they made the resolution to hire Taryn Freemantle as the new Town Administrator, effective Dec. 31, at a special meeting of council held on Dec. 16.

The name may ring familiar to lots in the area, as Freemantle is a local and grew up in Carrot River, going to school and being involved in the community over the years.

Freemantle brings a wealth of education, having received a bachelors degree in Business Administration, a diploma in Business Administration, and a certificate in Ideation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship — all from the University of Regina.

Carrot River Mayor, Roman Charko and council are excited to continue progressing the community under new administration.

“We are very pleased with the decision, and we are happy that Taryn accepted the offer,” says Charko. “Council is looking forward to working with Taryn going forward and we are excited to see what new ideas Taryn will bring forward.”

northeastNOW was able to catch up with Freemantle as she said she is quite happy to begin her new job.

“I’m very very excited,” she said. “This is really what I went to school for, so I guess more than anything, just excited to start working on a career that is in line with what I’ve spent the past five years learning how to do.”

Freemantle also mentioned how nice it was to be returning back to her roots.

“I moved here when I was in grade four and grew up here,” she said. “I actually just recently moved back, bought an acreage just outside of town, got married here in the fall and I’m looking to start a future at home. I just want to make a difference and be a voice for people here.”

And because of her connection with the area, Freemantle said it’s an honour to be representing the community she loves.

“Carrot river was a huge part of growing up for me, I lived out on an acreage north of town and I remember constantly bugging my parents to get a ride into town,” she said. “Just doing stuff with the community, it’s going to be good to be able to get involved and promote everything that Carrot River has to offer.”

As far as future plans, Freemantle doesn’t exactly know what’s on the itinerary yet, however, she knows she will be making a positive impact.

“Definitely look to see some good progress in the coming future,” she said. “A larger band of communication between the community and the going on’s, making sure that we have open access to the community for all the programs and the different opportunities for people travelling in the area. Making sure that people are aware of the different opportunities and experiences that they can have.”

“I’m just really looking forward to being able to step into this new role.”
