Community Spirit Group having scavenger hunt contest in Battleford

Families with the top decorated homes in Battleford had a treat this year when the Battleford Community Spirit Group presented them each with a $50 gift certificate to the Discovery Co-op.

Four homes deemed to be the most beautifully decorated with light displays for the holiday season received an award for their efforts.

Judy Pruden, on the volunteer group’s organizing committee, said this is the second year families were recognized for their efforts.

“It’s a good news story,” she said of the initiative.

The winners of the Battleford Community Spirit Group’s prizes for best decorated homes were homeowners Amanda Rose; Cletus and Donna Scherman; Randy and Betty Becker; and Darrell McNeil.

Scavenger hunt

The non profit Community Spirit organization is also celebrating the holidays by holding a scavenger hunt in the Battleford community. The contest is open to Battleford residents only.

“The scavenger hunt prizes will also be bought by the Community Spirit Group,” Pruden said, adding the group has a special budget for this fun initiative.

The scavenger hunt encourages people to drive through the town to see the many of the holiday displays.

To take part in the contest, people must either print the entry form on the Battleford Community Spirit Group Facebook Page or the Town of Battleford website, or pick up a copy in person at Battleford Boutique or the Town Hall.

Then, they can simply follow the directions and series of clues provided on the instructions.

Pruden said part of the fun of the scavenger hunt is that people will be able to visit the various decorated homes. Then, they will answer some questions about where they saw some of the attractions and displays, based on the clues they receive.

After they complete their forms they can hand them in to Battleford Boutique or email them to BattlefordSpirit@sasktel.net.

The deadline for people to submit their entries is Dec. 29.

Pruden said volunteers Pam Beaver and Evelyn Skotniski are on the Community Spirit Group sub-committee helping organize the event.

“After Dec. 29, Pam and Evelyn will go through the entry forms and award the prizes,” Pruden said.
