Local RCMP detachments making spirits bright this Christmas
RCMP officers across northern Saskatchewan communities are spreading some Christmas cheer this season.
The nature of the job means many officers in northern communities, many of which who call other parts of Canada home, may be far from loved ones during the holiday season. However, officers and their families are finding other ways to celebrate in their adoptive communities.
This year, the RCMP noted numerous contributions to donation drives across northern detachments as officers ensured some families in need had food in the cupboard and gifts under the tree.
These include Tisdale RCMP, which teamed up with the Tisdale Fire Department for a fill-the-cruiser/fire truck drive. They were able to fill almost five police vehicles and two fire trucks with food donations, which should keep the local food bank shelves stocked for an estimated four to five months. Carrot River RCMP participated in a stuff-the-cruiser event. Community members donated toys, gift cards, cash and non-perishable food and household items which were used to create Christmas hampers and gifts for those in need. La Ronge RCMP held an in-detachment food drive challenge. About 500 pounds of food was gathered during the friendly competition and donated to the local food bank.
