The Humboldt & District Chamber of Commerce discusses what their goals were in 2021 and what their aspirations are for 2022.

After a successful year, the chamber is taking a moment to acknowledge those who made 2021 a success and who will continue to bring success to Humboldt in 2022.

Brent Fitzpatrick, Executive Director, said the main focus was on Truth and Reconciliation.

“It was just a very intensive year on being able to allow us to begin down the long ever-evolving path to reconciliation,” Fitzpatrick told northeastNOW. “We are proud of that. It’s something we should do as an organization and community.”

Fitzgerald commended local businesses for their ability to adapt over the past year.

“2020 was a learning curve and no one expected us to have the deep impact it did and 2021 was us dealing with it. You learn by doing.”

The campground added two long term sites that allow people to leave their trailers year-round.

The chamber undertook their shop local campaign. This program showcased local businesses in Humboldt and the surrounding area.

“We also undertook shop local which was a federally funded program. We produced 29 videos showcasing local businesses that will run into 2022.”

Currently, eight of the 29 videos have been published. The campaign will continue into the new year.

“We also purchased equipment that will allow us to go and videotape businesses. That will take us well into 2023.”

Fitzpatrick said it is important to remember to continue supporting local businesses in the new year.

“These are the businesses that gave you your first job, all of these folks coming up through school need a first job and if there are no businesses here due to spending overseas, that’s a problem.”

The chamber would like to thank all of the local businesses for their determination in these uncertain times and the community for shopping local.
