The Town of Watson is celebrating the last few weeks of a successful year before beginning a year of new projects.

After the uncertainty of 2020, the town is celebrating the success of 2021 full of events and improvements and hopes 2022 will be even better.

Lani Best, the town administrator, said the year the town receive several pieces of equipment.

“We have a new to us sweeper, Zamboni and we have some new town trucks.”

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic slowing things down and cancelling events, the town was able to celebrate its 90th annual Santa Claus Day.

“Santa Claus Day was a little bit bigger than last year and we are hoping to be back to normal in 2022.”

On Pacific Avenue, construction was done to repair service lines and prepare the road for paving.

“McNab Regional Park also just finished some major renovations and the arena is undergoing renovations which will continue into 2022.”

Best added that the Watson Chamber of Commerce has become active as well.

Kim Mitchell, chamber president, said they have grown in 2021.

“We are working on a plan with the town to get investment-ready; determining what land is for sale, residential plots that are for sale.”

Mitchell added that the chamber is hoping to host a Spring into Watson event the first weekend in June.

For 2022, Best said they are hoping to bring a pet-friendly attraction to the community.

“We have a group that is working on bringing in a dog park. We are finding a location, we are looking at the property that is along the highway,” Best added. “Which would be nice for people travelling to have a dog park right along the highway where they can stop and let their pets run.”

Best is hoping to encourage those who are curious about Watson to come and check out what the town has in store.

“Watson is growing, moving and there are a lot of exciting things coming. We have so many things that can interest anybody, so if you want to come and get involved this is a great community to do that in.”
