Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce (MTACC) looked back on a productive year and hopes for an even better new year.

The chamber celebrated their official designation, successful campaigns and the resilience of local businesses.

According to executive director Cam Lee, the highlight of the year was at the beginning of 2021.

“In January we earned the chamber designation. It was a lot of hard work from a lot of people at getting the Melfort Trade Alliance up and running.”

Lee became the executive director in April but, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, events were postponed.

In August MTACC hosted their first in-person event as a chamber, the 750 Beach Radio Show and Shine.

“It was a great turn out, with over 100 vehicles entered. People were excited to have it back in the northeast as it was gone for a few years.”

Lee became the executive director in April but due to the at local businesses had to offer to the communities. Lee thanked Lisa Suchlandt at the Nipawin chamber for spearheading the project.

The chamber also took it upon itself to distribute COVID-19 self-testing kits to the City of Melfort.

MTACC just wrapped up their final campaign of the year, the from Us To You X Two campaign which gave residents the chance to win 14 $25 gift cards for themselves and 14 $25 gift cards to share with the people in their lives. Lee noted there were nearly 700 entries in the final draw.

Lee said that the MTACC is always looking for new members and plans on hosting networking events in January.

“We are open to feedback from local businesses and residents alike — you don’t have to be a member of the business community — if you have anything you would like to see the chamber do or think the chamber can improve on,” he said.

The plan for 2022 is to redo all of the events held in 2021 and add more events as public health restrictions change and allow for larger gatherings.

The chamber is extending its thanks to the community for their continued support and those who have worked hard to help the MTACC grow.

“Thank you to everyone who supported our events. Thank you for being patient as well, we have had changes last minute. Thank you to the Melfort chamber board who are local business owners.”

Lee hopes, despite all of the uncertainty that has happened in 2021, people continue to think of others.

“Try to be kind to one another and pay it forward in 2022.”
