Showcase 2022 cancelled in Lloydminster

The Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition Association (LAEA) has canceled Showcase 2022.

The decision was made as COVID-19 restrictions continue to effect event venues and the province monitors case numbers. This is the third straight year the association has postponed the event, which was scheduled for March 25 to 27, 2022.

Showcase is the largest annual tradeshow in Lloydminster, showcasing home renovation and decorating, gardening, landscaping, tourism and more. It’s also a key networking opportunity for business owners.

In a media release, the LAEA noted the board of directors and staff are monitoring the COVID-19 situation very closely and that patrons, volunteers, and staff are top of mind during this time. Board member Greg Buchanan added that there was an extensive review that determined it wasn’t possible to hold the event as the tradeshow climate has changed during struggles to recover from the pandemic’s economic impact when compared to other industries.

“Many vendors are without supplies and inventory, many vendors have gone out of business during the pandemic, and many are just not wanting to take the risk of show cancellations,” Buchanan said. “We want to assure the community that the committee is working hard to bring Showcase back in 2023 better than ever!”

General manager Jackie Tomayer told battlefordsNOW that there’s no plans to cancel other upcoming events, with agricultural events in particular doing well.

“Agri-Vision’s is a go, Cattlemen’s call next week is a go,” she said. “We’re planning for the fair and having those kinds of meetings. Everything except Showcase unfortunately.”

The Cattlemen’s Call networking event runs this weekend, while Agri-Visions is set for Feb. 9 to 10.

In the release, LAEA also thanked sponsors, volunteers, and guests for past support.
