Nipawin and District Chamber of Commerce kicked off the year with a change to the board of directors.

Gregory Sproat became the new president of the chamber on Jan 5.

As a business owner/practice manager at Nipawin Dental Centre, Sproat said he has been actively involved with the chamber for three years.

“I have a strong working relationship with our current executive director and a fairly decent understanding of the economic landscape in the northeast.”

Despite only finding out recently that he was selected for the new role, Sproat already has big plans.

“I want to continue to build upon the successful event and initiatives we have in place. I am a big believer in quality over quantity,” Sproat added. “I want to put a strong focus on providing guidance for small businesses.”

Sproat said he is hoping to make an impact on the business community.

“I believe seeing Nipawin and the area thrive benefits everyone.”

One area of guidance will be to assist in building a strong digital presence to keep local businesses compete with online stores.

The chamber encourages business owners to join them on social media for helpful advice, guidance and other opportunities to encourage economic growth in the community.

“We have a lot of in-person and virtual seminars throughout the years which benefit businesses in all walks of life.”

A full list of events are available on the chamber website for those interested in attending virtual or in-person seminars.

Sproat encourages business owners to look into the resources that the chamber offers.

“I welcome you to reach out to us and have a conversation to see if your business would be a good fit to be a member of the chamber. “
