P.A. and northern Saskatchewan saw positive job growth throughout 2021

Prince Albert and northern Saskatchewan saw some of the best job growth in 2021 the region has had in the past 15 years.

According to Statistics Canada, around 1,800 positions were created in communities across the northern part of the province.

The wholesale and retail trade sector saw the biggest increase, adding roughly 1,900 spots from January to December.

The accommodation and food services, construction, and finance, insurance, real estate, rental, and leasing sectors also saw increases of more than 1,000 jobs.

The agriculture sector had the biggest loss from the start of the year to the end losing around 3,200 positions.

Meanwhile, the 1,800 spots added in 2021 were tied for the fourth most P.A. and northern Saskatchewan have seen in a calendar year since 2007.

The year 2010 also saw around 1,800 jobs created, while 2012’s workforce increased by approximately 2,700, 2019’s by roughly 3,600, and 2008’s by around 9,400.

As for the rest of the province, the Saskatoon-Biggar region added the most positions in 2021, roughly 7,300.

Regina-Moose Mountain created approximately 3,900 spots, Yorkton-Melville’s workforce rose by around 100, while Swift Current-Moose Jaw saw a decrease of around 1,200 jobs.
