COVID-19 hospitalizations rise by nine in province, 937 new cases

As COVID-19 numbers in Saskatchewan continue to quickly rise, now hospitalizations are starting to follow.

In Saturday’s provincial update, hospitalizations increased by nine to 114. That’s an increase of 35 from Jan. 3, when there were 79 hospitalizations. Of the 114, 13 are being treated in intensive care, seven in Saskatoon, four in the Central East, and two in Regina. There are 14 inpatients in the Northern zones, nine in North Central, four in North West and one in North East.

After the province reported over 1,000 new cases for the first time since the pandemic began on Friday, they reported 937 more on Saturday. Of the new cases, 39 are in the North East, 34 in the North West and 26 in North Central. In the Far North zones, 19 new cases are reported in the Far North West and 10 in the Far North East.

NITHA numbers

There are 12 new cases to report on Jan. 7 in Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) communities. Of the new cases, one (eight per cent) were not vaccinated; one (eight per cent) were partially vaccinated, and 10 (84 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 68 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), one; Far North West, 21; Far North East, 43; North Central, one; and North East, two. There have been 6,920 cases (98 per cent) have recovered, and there are 0 hospitalizations.
