Stars see schedule shuffled, return to play Friday

Jan 12, 2022 | 3:21 PM

Due to the continued COVID situation affecting the Flin Flon Bombers, the Battlefords North Stars have seen their Saturday-Sunday back-to-backs with the Bombers postponed.

However, the team will still return to action this weekend, instead facing the Kindersley Klippers for a home-and-home Friday and Saturday night.

Friday’s game will be played in Kindersley, with Saturday night’s contest in North Battleford.

The game in the Battlefords will replace the matchup between the two sides that would have taken place in the community Jan. 28, while Friday’s game in Kindersley will replace the one initially scheduled for Feb. 27.

The decision to move the games comes after both the Stars and Klippers saw their games Tuesday (Stars) and Wednesday (Klippers) against Nipawin postponed earlier in the week, and were at risk of being sidelined until next week with the Bombers’ continued freeze; Kindersley was scheduled to play Flin Flon Friday.

Head coach of the Stars, Brayden Klimosko said the alteration actually works out pretty well, making the most of some challenging circumstances.

“We just feel like right now, we need to play,” Klimosko said. “We’re not getting any farther ahead by just practicing, so it works out well that we’ll get to play Kindersley who weren’t going to be playing anybody this weekend either, and we’ll get a couple of games knocked off our schedule here.”

The NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast will be available both Friday and Saturday night on 1050 CJNB. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7 p.m., with puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m.
