Over 9,000 cases of COVID-19 currently active in the province

Saskatchewan has hit an unfortunate milestone after 945 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 has brought the number of current active cases to 9,252.

Other COVID-19 spikes in the province failed to exceed 5,000 cases until this current wave. Today’s active case count is 546 cases more than yesterday following 405 recoveries.

The provincial government is once again reporting no new deaths related to COVID-19.

Of the new cases, 101 are located in northern Saskatchewan; Far North West (five), Far North Central (two), Far North East (two), North West (30), North Central (32) and North East (30).

Just over two-fifths (41.9 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

As of Jan. 13, a total of 123 individuals are hospitalized, including 112 inpatient hospitalizations and 11 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 123 patients, 52 (42.3 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

The SHA dashboard includes 123 hospitalizations: 112 residents are inpatient: of those, 55 inpatient hospitalizations are a COVID-19-related illness, 46 are incidental, asymptomatic infections and 11 have not yet been determined. Eleven residents are in ICUs: of those, six are for COVID-19-related illnesses and five are incidental, asymptomatic infections.

NITHA numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported 13 new cases in NITHA communities on Jan. 12. Of the new cases, three (23 per cent) are not vaccinated; one (eight per cent) was partially vaccinated; eight (61 per cent) were fully vaccinated, and one (eight per cent) was ineligible for vaccination.

There are 115 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, 39; Far North East, 65; North Central, five; and North East, six. There have been 6,950 cases (98 per cent) have recovered, and there are 0 hospitalizations.

Athabasca Health Authority

Two new cases of COVID-19 were reported today in the Far North Central zone of the province. The active case count in the Athabasca Health Region is now four.
