Raiders to take on Hurricanes after COVID-related absence

Jan 14, 2022 | 12:00 PM

Barring any last-minute cancellation, the Prince Albert Raiders are going to return to the ice surface Friday night to end a 12-day absence. The Raiders last played on Jan. 2, beating the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-2 at the Art Hauser Centre.

The Raiders are in Lethbridge to take on the Hurricanes, the first meeting between the two sides since their New Year’s Eve trade that saw the Raiders acquire defenceman Trevor Thurston and a sixth-round pick in 2023, in exchange for Tyson Laventure and Ross Stanley.

Laventure got an assist in his Hurricanes’ debut on Wednesday, helping set up Logan Wormald’s overtime winner as the Hurricanes beat the Swift Current Broncos 3-2 in OT. Stanley also appeared in the game.

Thurston could make his Raider debut against his old team, after returning from COVID-19 protocol earlier this week.

According to the weekly report, Raiders have two players in COVID-19 protocol, Hayden Pakkala and Carson Latimer, both of whom are listed as day-to-day. The Hurricanes no longer have any of their players in protocols.

The Raiders and the Hurricanes have only met once this season, the Hurricanes got the better of things in a 5-3 win back on Oct. 23 at the Art Hauser Centre.

Listen to Rob Mahon’s call of the game on CKBI, with his unbelievable pre-game show starting at 7:30 p.m. Saskatchewan time.
