The Battlefords North Stars took home a convincing 3-0 victory over the division rival Klippers, Friday night in Kindersley.

Goaltender, Lowen Kenyon stopped all 28 shots he faced to pick up his first career SJHL shutout in the win, while Dylan Esau scored a short-handed goal, and Steven Kesslering and Jake Southgate also pitched in on the scoring.

Following a scoreless opening period that saw the Stars dominate large stretches – outshooting the Klippers 16-6 – the team did eventually break through the goaltending wall of Klippers’ goalie, Matt Pesenti in the second frame of action.

Esau cashed in for his 10th of the year to open the scoring on a short-handed breakaway tally. Picking up the puck at his own defensive blue line, Esau outraced a pair of Kindersley defenders on the play, before making it 1-0 Stars on a five-hole deke move.

Kesslering, who pushed the puck up to Esau on the first goal, added one of his own as well just 4:34 into the second, to make it 2-0 on his 15th of the campaign.

Kesslering’s marker came on a deflected shot from the blue line by Stars’ “AP” call-up, Jacob Ziegler, marking Zeigler’s first career point as well, with the primary assist on the play.

Southgate then make it 3-0, capping the night’s scoring with his team-leading 17th, on a quick release from the deep slot, at the 13:41 mark.

Stars’ captain, Ryland McNinch found Southgate with a pass from the corner, beating a pair of Klippers off the boards to set up the play in front.

With the win, the Stars are now 22-10-5 on the year through 37 games, and sit fourth overall in the league standings with 49 points.

The North Stars and Klippers will now prepare for a quick turnaround, as the teams will play the back-half of their home-and-home this weekend, Saturday night in North Battleford.

Saturday’s NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast will be available on 1050 CJNB.The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7 p.m., with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
