Raider rookie Wilson scores first WHL goal in loss to Hitmen
The Prince Albert Raiders’ streak of getting big wins over Alberta-based teams came to an end at two on Saturday, after dropping a 4-1 game to the Calgary Hitmen at the Saddledome. The Raiders fall to 14-18-1-1 on the season, just one point out of eighth place in the WHL Eastern Conference playoff race. The Hitmen improved to 14-12-3-2, jumping up to the seventh spot.
The Raiders came out the better side in the first period, with rookie Zach Wilson scoring his first WHL career goal by crashing the net and picking up a nice rebound.
But the second period came. The Hitmen won the period 3-0 to take a 3-1 advantage into the third period. They started off by scoring a pair of goals within 63 seconds of each other, with Sean Tschigerl getting his first after some quick, lateral passing from the Hitmen. Riley Fiddler-Schultz got his 17th of the year by snapping a loose puck from in front of the net just over a minute later.
Tschigerl would tie Fiddler-Schultz for the Hitmen goal-scoring lead on the power play, tipping a Grayden Siepmann point shot just nine seconds into the power play after the faceoff. The Raiders argued the faceoff was not conducted properly but did not win the debate with the officials as the goal stood.
