Raiders’ rookie Lodewyk scores first goal in his hometown as P.A. routs Rebels

It was another wild Raiders-Rebels matchup on Monday—10 goals were scored, two game misconducts were handed out, and two Rebels goaltending changes were strangely made on a Monday makeup game.

After all the dust settled, the Prince Albert Raiders ended up defeating the Red Deer Rebels 7-3 at the Peavey Mart Centrium, to exact revenge for the 8-6 defeat at the Art Hauser Centre back on Dec. 29 between the two clubs. The Raiders are now 14-18-1-1 on the season and are 2-1 so far in their Alberta road trip. The Rebels fall to 23-10-2-1 on the season.

The Raiders spread out their goals, as Harrison Lodewyk scored his first WHL career goal, in his hometown against the team he grew up cheering for. Evan Herman had a goal and two helpers to lead the Raiders offensively. Hayden Pakkala, Reece Vitelli, Landon Kosior, and Sloan Stanick also scored for the Raiders. Carson Latimer had three helpers in the game, as well.

Both teams came absolutely flying out of the gate as they split four goals in the first 7:25 of the game.

Stanick’s ‘chip tip’ goal 1:42 into the second period would look like it would be the end of Rebels’ goaltender Chase Coward’s night, after he gave up three goals on 11 shots. But his replacement, Connor Ungar, didn’t fare much better as he surrendered three goals on seven shots for the remaining 18:18 of the second period. Coward went back out in the third period and ended the night with 15 saves on 19 shots.

In the Raiders’ goal, it seems Tikhon Chaika will never leave the crease as he’s made appearances in all of the last 15 games. Chaika made 26 saves on 29 shots for his ninth victory on the season.

The game got even stranger in the second period as both teams took major penalties and game misconducts in the second period. Raider newcomer Trevor Thurston hit Rebel Czech import Frantisek Formanek with a kneeing penalty, forcing Thurston’s early exit.

Then later in the period, Christoffer Sedoff hit Ozzy Wiesblatt into the end boards awkwardly, and Sedoff earned the same fate. Both Formanek and Wiesblatt did not return to the game.
