Table Mountain to open Tubing Zone this weekend

Those in the Battlefords and area looking for some fresh air fun will be able to slip-slide down the frosty slopes this weekend, tubing at Table Mountain.

The local ski and snowboard hotspot located just 16 km west of Battleford, has opened their ‘tube zone’ for the weekend, which will be available Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4 p.m., in addition to the regular slopes, which operate Friday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

General manager, Lawrence Blouin said after using the last week while closed due to freezing temperatures to get the tubing area cultivated, it’s ready to go for weekends moving forward this season.

“We cut the lanes here last week while it was cold Monday through Thursday to get that all cleaned up and ready to open for our tubing park Saturdays and Sundays,” he said. “Our intention is to have it [Saturday and Sunday nights] to the end of the season, though that will depend on staffing and weather of course, but the intention is every Saturday and Sunday through to the end of March.”

Tubing is just the latest addition of the season as Table Mountain also opened their night skiing — a special Friday night feature — last weekend.

“Last Friday was our first night, though we would have been open on the (Jan. 7), but it was too cold, so it was nice to be able to get that started,” Blouin said. “We should have Friday night skiing every Friday from 6:30–9:30 to the end of March, unless it’s -20 (Celsius) or colder.”
