Battlefords Agricultural Society planning event with country singer Jaydee Bixby

The Battlefords Agricultural Society is thrilled to be back in the saddle again, heading into the year with a number of events on the roster.

General manager Jocelyn Ritchie said COVID-19 protocols will be in place, in accordance with the province’s regulations. Masks will be required and attendees will need to show proof of vaccination.

“It’s good to be starting to plan,” she said. “We are planning a full year ahead.”

Country-style night out

Coming up March 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the AgriVilla, the society will have a special night of dinner and entertainment called “Evening Out.”

The guest performer for the show is Canadian country music artist Jaydee Bixby and his band.

The Alberta-based talent, a prior runner-up on Canadian Idol, recorded three CDs over the years. Bixby said he is looking forward to coming to the local area to perform.

“It’s going to be a great country crowd,” he told battlefordsNOW. “I’m really happy to be doing these shows again… We’ll be doing a lot of my own stuff. But I’m a big fan of the classic country, so we will pay homage to what I call the legends of country music.”

The evening will include a fully-catered dinner, as well as door prizes and a silent auction, with proceeds benefiting the agricultural society.

Tickets for the event, $30 each or $200 for a table of eight, are available at the Battlefords Agricultural Society office or through its website here.

“It should be a really good event,” Ritchie told battlefordsNOW. “We’re going to have restrictions in place of course, and make everybody safe… It should just be a nice evening for everyone to get out and relax.”

Coming up later, the agricultural society will hold its inaugural Spring Home Expo. The event replaces the former Agrimex Farm, Trade and Home Show.

The event will be much more extensive to include leisure products, such as RVs and boats, along with agricultural products, and “absolutely everything you can think of,” Ritchie said.

Running April 22 and 23 at the AgriPlex and AgriVilla buildings, the show will also include a pancake breakfast on the Saturday.

Again, everyone will need to be fully vaccinated to attend. The booths at the show will be well separated to allow for social distancing.

“We are really hoping we get vendors that have gardening, all kinds of home [products], businesses, leisure, sports, farm equipment, car sales, boat sales – all kinds of things,” Ritchie said. “It will have something for everybody.”

Ritchie added she would like to see some vendors offer demonstrations and small workshops as well if possible during the event.

“We hope to attract absolutely everybody we can,” she said, adding that a few vendors have already signed up to take part.
