Broncos win against Hounds, prepare for two game weekend

The Humboldt Broncos are keeping an ongoing winning streak alive following a win on home ice against the Notre Dame Hounds last night.

Two Broncos also had reason to celebrate as Connor Casparie and Jerzy Orchard scored their first goals of the season back to back in the second period with Orchard’s shorthanded and unassisted goal being counted as the game winning point.

Also to find the back of the net was Braiden Koran in the first period with his 19th of the season and Lucas Ceccarelli in the second for his 15th.

While the Hounds would stage a comeback in the third with a goal from lead scorer Kevin Anderson and pulling goalie Austin Elliott for the man advantage late in the game, the Broncos would hold on in the 4-2 win.

Looking ahead to weekend action for the green and gold, the Broncos will welcome the Yorkton Terriers on Friday followed by the Weyburn Red Wings on Saturday.

Fans will have a chance to bid on players, goalies, coaches, staff, and possibly some special guests following Friday night’s game for the player auction team fundraiser. Winning bidders will take home a portion of the pot from their winning player and the goalie’s save percentages following the elimination shootout on Saturday. All in all there will be 50 per cent of the auction pot up for grabs with the rest going to the Humboldt Broncos organization.

Fans will have plenty of talent to choose from with five Broncos currently in the top 20 of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s top scorers. Three players are currently sitting among the top five skaters in the league: Connor McGrath (59 points, 21 goals and 38 assists), Alec Saretzky (49 points, 25 goals and 24 assists) and rookie forward Matthew Perkins (46 points, 19 goals and 27 assists), with Koran and Ceccarelli also on the board in eighth and 15th place respectively.

Also chalking up the points this year is Noah Barlage with 30 points, five goals and 25 assists, who is sitting number two on the leaderboard for top scoring defenceman, with fellow Bronco defenceman Cody Hough sitting at 14th place with 18 points, four goals and 14 assists.

With a current save percentage of 0.925, bidders will have to decide how many shots Rayce Ramsay can stop of his fellow Broncos. With five SJHL games under his belt with the Broncos and an 0.880 save percentage, William Dyke will also be in net for the shootout with his save percentages up for grabs by bidders.
