Accused in murder of Air Ronge resident has first court date adjourned

Jan 27, 2022 | 12:12 PM

The first court date for a male teen accused of first-degree murder was quickly adjourned.

The matter was spoken to at La Ronge Provincial Court on Thursday. A lawyer appeared for the teen and the matter was adjourned until March 14 at 9:30 a.m. in La Ronge.

The teen is facing one count of first-degree murder and one count of robbery in connection to the murder of Air Ronge resident Jennifer Hendry. A publication ban is in effect prohibiting the media from identifying the individual as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

According to an obituary announcing Hendry passing, she was well-known in the communities of Air Ronge and La Ronge for nearly 20 years. She first worked as an instructor at Northlands College and more recently she was employed with the La Ronge RCMP and Saskatchewan Health Authority.

It notes Hendry was taken forever from her family and friends during an invasion of her home.

“Many people benefitted from gifts of her baking, beautiful quilts, or technical skills over the years,” the obituary states. “However, she will be missed most for her ability to know what other people needed and her willingness to be there to provide it.”
