Sharp incline in hospitalizations as 1,273 new cases of COVID-19 reported

As of Jan. 27, a total of 328 people are in hospital in the province, which is the highest total since the spike back on Oct. 4.

Hospitalizations reached a provincial high on Oct. 6 when 356 people were reported hospitalized in relation to COVID-19.

Current numbers include 293 in inpatient; 120 with COVID-19-related illness, 140 incidental COVID-19 infections, and 33 not yet been determined. There are also 35 people in ICU ; 26 for COVID-19-related illnesses and six for incidental COVID-19 infections.

Three residents are in PICU/NICU: two are for COVID-19-related illnesses, and one is for incidental COVID-19 infection.

Of the 328 patients, 107 (32.6 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

The province is reporting another 1,273 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the number of cases currently active to 12,386.

There are currently 2,171 active cases in the six northern zones of the province.

Two COVID-related deaths were also reported today bringing the provincial total to 985 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

Of the new cases 170 are located in northern zones of the province; the Far North West (seven), Far North Central (one), Far North East (30), North West (57), North Central (50), and North East (25).

Of the 1,273 new cases reported today, 224 were unvaccinated or fewer than 21 days after their first dose, 56 had received their first dose or were less than 21 days from their second dose, 687 were fully vaccinated (more than 14 days since their second dose) and 306 were fully vaccinated and more than 14 days from receiving their booster dose.

NITHA numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported 59 new cases in NITHA communities on Jan. 26.

There are 226 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 21; Far North West, 38; Far North East, 131; North Central, 17; and North East, 19. There have been 7,328 cases (96 per cent) have recovered, and there are 0 hospitalizations.

Athabasca Health Authority

According to updates on the Athabasca Health Authority AHA Facebook group, as of Jan. 26 there are nine active cases of COVID-19 in Black Lake and one in Stony Rapids. As of Jan. 25, there are six active cases in Fond Du Lac. Updates from the Athabasca Health Authority are available on their Facebook group.
