The Battlefords Barons (#1) U15 team recently took home a tournament victory in Shellbrook, winning all four of their games, on their way to earning their spot atop the podium.

The team opened the tournament with a pair of victories opening day, defeating Tisdale’s Team Red 5-2 before also besting the hosts from Shellbrook 5-4.

The next day the Barons continued their roll, topping Hague in convincing fashion 7-1, leading to a meeting with Tisdale’s Team Black in the final where they won 5-1 to take the tournament gold.

Head coach of the Barons, Kelly Page said with a .500 record this season, sitting 6-6 in league play, he was proud of the way the team battled to get their first tournament win of the year.

“We’ve struggled a bit with consistency this year, but this weekend the boys really came together and worked hard, so hopefully we can ride this momentum into the playoffs,” Page said. “I think the players really needed a weekend away, and they really deserved it which was great to see.”

With just under a month to go in the season, the Barons will return to action this weekend for back-to-backs Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Saturday’s game will be played in Big River, with Sunday’s at the Access Communications Centre against top-seeded Meadow Lake.

Sunday’s home game will begin at 12:30 p.m.
