Record number of COVID-19 hospitalizations reached in the province

As of Jan. 31 a total of 363 people are being hospitalized for COVID-19 in Saskatchewan.

This is the highest number of hospitalizations the province has experienced since the pandemic began with the previous high recorded on Oct. 6 with 356 hospitalizations.

Currently, 321 residents are inpatient: of those, 118 inpatient hospitalizations are a COVID-19-related illness, 165 are incidental COVID-19 infections, and 38 have not yet been determined.

There are currently 41 residents in ICUs: of those, 33 are for COVID-19-related illnesses, and eight are for incidental COVID-19 infections. One resident is in PICU/NICU for COVID-19-related illness.

The latest update confirmed 736 new cases of COVID-19.

On the new cases 117 are found in the northern zones of the province; Far North West (three), Far North Central (three), Far North East (seven), North West (32), North Central (56), and North East (16).

Of the 736 new cases, 111 were unvaccinated or fewer than 21 days after their first dose, 26 had received their first dose or were less than 21 days from their second dose, 352 were fully vaccinated or more than 14 days since their second dose and 247 were fully vaccinated and more than 14 days from receiving their booster dose.

Two new deaths were reported meaning a total of 992 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died.

There are currently 12,208 active cases across the province with 2,210 cases in the six northern zones.

NITHA numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported 17 new cases in NITHA communities on Jan. 30.

There are 157 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 11; Far North West, eight; Far North East, 71; North Central, 50; and North East, 17. There have been 7,566 cases (97 per cent) have recovered, and there are 0 hospitalizations.
