After six wins Broncos lose at home against North Stars

Feb 2, 2022 | 11:16 AM

A disappointing night in Humboldt kicked off February Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action for the Broncos as they fell 4-0 to Battlefords last night ending their six game winning streak.

It was a steady process as the visiting North Stars first found the back of the Broncos net three minutes into the first period followed by two in the second.

The Broncos would try to put some extra power in their corner with goalie Rayce Ramsay being pulled with two a half minutes left in the third.

A short-handed empty-netter care of Holden Doell would seal the Broncos fate and make it 4-0 at the buzzer.

Former Bronco Michael Harroch would pick up the win in net for the North Stars stopping all 39 shots from the green and gold for his third career shutout and second with Battlefords.

Ramsay would pick up the loss stopping 28 of the 31 shots in goal.

The two extra points to their name, the North Stars have maintained fifth place in the SJHL. The Broncos are still maintaining their first place spot, however, the second place Estevan Bruins are now trailing with only a game separating them.

With the Kindersley Klippers on COVID protocol, the Broncos match up on Feb. 2 is postponed for a later date. Broncos will now pull up their socks as they prepare to welcome the Nipawin Hawks to the Elgar Petersen Arena on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The Hawks are coming off a 5-0 win over Weyburn last night and will face the Estevan Bruins before coming down to Humboldt. While sitting in 11th place in the SJHL, the Hawks are still fighting for that eighth playoff spot as the season marches on in this last full month of regular season hockey.
