Harroch shutout leads way, as Stars blank Broncos 4-0

Feb 2, 2022 | 12:43 AM

Goaltender, Michael Harroch wasted no time making headlines in his return to the lineup Tuesday, stopping all 39 shots he faced, to lead the North Stars to a 4-0 shutout win over league-leading Humboldt.

Making his first start since sustaining an upper body injury Jan. 4, Harroch’s performance was perhaps made extra sweet, as it also came against his former team in the Broncos, with whom he broke into the junior ranks, two seasons ago.

In addition to their goaltender’s performance, Zane Florence, Colby Bear, Keiton Klein and Holden Doell also scored for the North Stars in the win, to help lead the team to victory.

Florence’s 11th of the season opened the scoring, making it 1-0 Stars just over three minutes into the first, when his shoot-in from center took a wild bounce off the glass stanchion and into the vacated net, as Broncos’ goalie Race Ramsay had left his crease in anticipation of the puck going around the wall.

Serving as the lone goal of the opening frame, the goaltenders stole the show otherwise through the first, stopping 16/16 (Harroch) and 11/12 (Ramsay), respectively.

In the second, Bear gave the Stars an insurance marker at 2-0, on a highlight-reel breakaway tally for his seventh of the year.

After Emmett Wurst won a puck battle ahead to Dace Prymak at center, Bear took off cutting towards the opposition blue line, where he received a perfect dish to spring in alone on the Broncos’ goalie. Showing no hesitation, Bear then picked his spot and snapped a shot, just inside the bar and into the net.

Klein scored his fifth of the campaign on a shot from the slot, when Kesslering found him alone in front; before Doell ultimately sealed the evening with his ninth, into the empty net to make it 4-0 Battlefords.

With the victory the North Stars have now won three straight, and improve to 24-10-5 on the year, with 53 points. The team will go for their fourth straight win this weekend when they return to play against the Melfort Mustangs, Friday.

The NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast will be available on 1050 CJNB. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7 p.m., with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
