North Battleford local and John Paul II Collegiate senior, Marc Revet has announced his commitment to Briercrest College for the fall of 2022.

Joining a winning volleyball program, located just under four hours south of the Battlefords, Revet said he’s eagerly awaiting the next chapter of his volleyball career at a school that checked all the boxes.

“I really wanted to continue playing volleyball after high school but I wasn’t looking to go too far away, and Briercrest was a great fit,” Revet said.

“[Earlier this year] I got to practice and get a bit of a feel for the team and the campus environment and Nigel [Mullan], the head coach of Briercrest, is a really good coach and all the guys were really nice, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

On the academic side, Revet will pursue a Bachelors in Business Administration.

Already with an accomplished volleyball resume, Revet is a 2019 SHSAA 4A provincial silver medalist, and 2021 4A provincial gold medalist, playing a key role in helping lead the JPII senior boys in each of their podium finishes, including this year’s which served as a fitting end to his high school volleyball career.

A member of Battleford’s Volleyball Club (BVC) since 2017, which included a U15 provincial championship with the program, Rivet has also been a part of Team Sask Volleyball since 2019.

Coach with the senior boys team at JPII, Shelly Fransoo, said she and the school could not have been happier to hear the news of Revet’s commitment.

“JPII is extremely proud of this young man,” Fransoo said. “He has been an excellent representative of our school and we are very excited for him with this new opportunity. Marc’s a solid, steadfast player and I know Briercrest will appreciate his methodical approach to the game; he’s not a player who gets flustered very easily and I just know he’ll be a major contributor.”

Briercrest finished the 2021-22 volleyball season second in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) South Division with an 8-2 record. Located in Caronport, Sask., Briercrest is the lone college from Saskatchewan to be included in ACAC men’s volleyball.
