La Ronge protestor supports trucker conveys, end to vaccine mandates

Long-time resident Ronald Beament began protesting in front of Cumberland MLA Doyle Vermette’s office this morning.

He brought several signs with him outlining his support for truckers and recent demonstrations, as well as many people’s desire to end vaccine mandates.

Vermette believes a resident of La Ronge who is protesting outside his local office has a right to demonstrate peacefully and respectfully.

“He has a right to voice his concern,” Vermette said in an interview with larongeNOW. “He’s doing what he feels he needs to do and, if he’s respectful and peaceful, then…we have that right to do that.”

Beament mentioned he was doubled vaccinated for COVID-19, said that was his personal choice but the spread of vaccine mandates has gone too far. He explained Canadians shouldn’t have to be forced to become vaccinated with the threat of losing their livelihood.

“We’re supposed to be a pro-choice country and when you start taking away everybody’s rights away and making them do things in order to keep their job that’s wrong,” Beament said. “They [the government] shouldn’t be this much in our lives, so we have to make a stand or else we won’t have nothing.”

Beament believes the Constitutional rights of Canadians are being violated and noted scientific research is showing Canadians will need to learn to live with COVID-19. He added vaccine mandates are starting to divide Canadians and that shouldn’t be the case.

“They got everybody turning against each other and that’s not the way we are as Canadians,” Beament said.

When it comes to supporting vaccine mandates, Vermette said he will continue to support the advice of health professionals in the province. He noted all members of the NDP are vaccinated, as are the members of his family.

“As long as the health professionals keep telling us what to do, I’ll continue to do that and do my part,” Vermette said. “I know our party has been doing the same thing in making that very clear our stances on that.”

On Monday, Premier Scott Moe announced more details will be coming Tuesday about Saskatchewan’s plan to begin removing COVID-19 restrictions. Moe said the federal government should look at doing the same.
