Melfort & District Museum and the North Central Health Care Foundation (NCHCF) are celebrating the success of the Christmas Village.

The Museum presented NCHCF with a cheque for $3,000 on Feb. 11. The Christmas Village ran for 13 days and raised a total of $6,000 to be split between the two organizations.

Gailmarie Anderson, museum curator, said the two organizations partnered together to celebrate Christmas in a way that was safe to do so during the pandemic.

“We thought that we could have an outdoor event. We have wanted to do this for several years so I talked to Dr. Yemi. He thought it was a great idea and he said he would partner with us. “

The event featured a light display, nativity scene, bonfire, apple cider and a special activity for those missing their loved ones during the holidays.

“We had a memory tree in the school which was special. The Christmas Castle group has done this in the past where you can write the name of a loved one and put the ornament on the tree.”

The funds donated to the NCHCF will go towards assisting in the purchase of much-needed healthcare equipment.

Anderson added the money for the museum will go towards helping with refurbishing exhibits.

“We are using it to continue the renovation of the 1912 caboose we have. We have put a lot of money, time and effort into it but there is still another stage to do.”

For those already looking forward to the 2022 holiday season, Anderson said there will be double the activities for the community to enjoy.

“We are hoping this was the first annual. We intend to do the outside Christmas village again, also we will be doing the Christmas castle in the historic post office. It draws everybody into the Christmas spirit.”
