Bombers get the bounce on North Stars before rematch Saturday

Feb 12, 2022 | 12:02 AM

The longest road trip of the year certainly didn’t start the way the Battlefields North Stars wanted it to.

They were outscored 3-0 in the first period and fell 4-0 to the Flin Flon Bombers Friday night at the legendary Whitney Forum.

The North Stars found themselves in the penalty box within the opening minute before Reece Richmond scored the opening goal of the contest shortly after the penalty had expired.

Just two minutes later, Jaxon Martens made it 2-0 after the Bombers wouldn’t let the North Stars clear their zone, and smacked in a loose puck in the crease.

Xavier Lapointe would then add to his SJHL leading goals and points as a defenceman, and score a pair of goals to make it a 4-0 game. Lapointe now has 17 goals and 40 points on the season.

Stars goaltender Lowen Kenyon made 35 saves in the defeat, while Cal Schell got a 36-save shutout for the Bombers.

Both teams will have a rematch on Saturday, 7:30 p.m. at the Whitney Forum.
